A’Level exams rescheduled to April 26

Ministry of Education has announced the Edexcel A’Level examination has been rescheduled to April 26.

Previously, the exam had been set to begin on May 5 and to end on June 17. However, the education ministry stated Edexcel has made changes to its A2 and AS exams without consulting the ministry or the Department of Public Examination. The ministry stated it was unable to negotiate with Edexcel on changing the exam to the previous schedule.

In February, the UK-based education and examination body decided not to hold A’Level exams in May and June. However, Edexcel later gave approval for the Maldives to hold the exams. The deadline to submit applications to participate in the A’Level exam ended on March 11.

Due to the new schedule, the local Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSC) exams have been set for June 13 to 17, which is one month after the A2 and AS exams.

The education ministry has been forced to make significant changes to the 2020 and 2021 academic calendar after schools were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
