Health centres in 12 islands to be developed as hospitals

Ministry of Health has revealed plans to re-develop health centres in 12 islands as hospitals.

The health ministry revealed the health centres in the islands of Ihavandhoo and Hoarafushi in Haa Alifu Atoll, Hanimaadhoo in Haa Dhaalu Atoll, Milandhoo in Shaviyani Atoll, Velidhoo and Kendhikulhudhoo in Noonu Atoll, Thulhaadhoo in Baa Atoll, Hinnavaru in Lhaviyani Atoll, Nilandhoo in Faafu Atoll, Vilufushi in Thaa Atoll, Maamigili in Alifu Dhaalu Atoll and Gahdhoo in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll are set to be developed as hospitals. As such, the ministry revealed the design drawings and the Bill of Quantities (BOQ) for the hospitals have been completed and handed over to the ministry.

The government is undertaking several projects in the atolls to develop healthcare services across the country. In this regard, the government is developing five regional hospitals as tertiary hospitals, in order to reduce the dependency on Male’ for healthcare services.
