31 plots in Addu handed over for tourism development

Addu City Council has handed over 31 plots to be developed as tourist hotels and guesthouses, as part of the project to develop tourism in Addu City.

The plots were allocated from the five major tourism development zones allocated in Addu City. These were the first 31 plots to be opened for tender, among the 93 plots allocated for tourism development across the five zones.

The plots were handed over to winning bidders by Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom, during a ceremony held at Feydhoo Tourism Zone on March 19. The ceremony was attended by Addu City Mayor Abdulla Sodiq and other members of Addu City Council.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Tourism Minister Dr. Mausoom said tourism development in Addu is among the high-priority projects undertaken by the government. He said the government will play an active role in seeking investors for the development of guesthouses and city hotels in the allocated plots, in order to ensure the tourism development project is carried out in a sustainable manner.

Meanwhile, Addu City Mayor Abdulla Sodiq noted the city council will not stop at just releasing the land plots for tourism development. As such, he noted landscaping works are already ongoing in the tourism development zones, adding the city council is aiming provide electricity to these zones before the end of Ramadan.

As part of the tourism development project in Addu, 30 plots will be developed in Hithadhoo Maamen Beach Tourism Zone, and another 25 plots will be developed in Hithadhoo Keyvah Beach Maafishi Tourism Zone. In addition, 16 plots have been allocated for tourism development in Meedhoo Koagannu Beach Mulimathi Tourism Zone, while Feydhoo Savaa Beach Dhigihera Tourism Zone and Maradhoo Tourism Zone have 16 and 24 plots allocated respectively.
