Maldives and Japan set to hold 3rd Round of Policy Dialogue

Maldives and Japan are set to hold its 3rd Round of Japan-Maldives Policy Dialogue on March 4, 2021.

The Dialogue will be held virtually due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. , Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel will lead the Maldives delegation, and the Japanese delegation will be led by Director-General, Southeast and Southwest Asian Affairs Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Kenichi Kobayashi.

During the Policy Dialogue, the two countries will discuss ways to further strengthen existing bilateral ties, including on development and economic cooperation, and on COVID prevention, tourism and travel related matters. Both countries will also discuss issues of mutual concern and shared interests in the regional and international sphere.

Maldives and Japan regularly hold bilateral discussions to explore avenues for future cooperation, to exchange ideas and to deliberate on economic cooperation. The last policy dialogue between the two countries were held in August 2019.
