Maldives and Bangladesh discuss introduction of sea cruise services

Maldives and Bangladesh have held discussions on introducing sea cruise services between the two countries later this year.

The discussions were held during a meeting held between the Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina and the High Commissioner of the Maldives to Bangladesh Shiruzimath Sameer. During the meeting, the Prime Minister and High Commissioner discussed the introduction of sea cruise services between the Maldives and Bangladesh in the winter season this year.

Further discussions were also held on enhancing cooperation and assistance between the two countries in fisheries and agriculture sectors. Discussions were also held on boosting trade and commercial relations between the two countries.

During the meeting, the high commissioner informed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina that a number of Maldivian students have been studying medical sciences in Bangladesh. Noting that her government has established engineering universities and colleges, medical colleges, aviation and maritime universities in Bangladesh, the Prime Minister urged more Maldivian students to pursue their studies in Bangladesh.

High Commissioner Shiruzimath Sameer also informed that the Maldives has already started the vaccination of the expatriate labourers as they have been playing a significant role in the socio-economic uplift of the country. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina urged the Bangladeshi nationals residing in Maldives to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

During the meeting, the High Commissioner expressed her gratitude on behalf of the Maldives for the generous donations given by Bangladesh to the Maldives amid the COVID-19 pandemic. She also lauded the prime minister for her visionary leadership alongside her role and initiatives in facing the pandemic.
