Ismail Habeeb appointed as Vice President of ECM

Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) appoints its member Ismail Habeeb as its new Vice President.

Ismail Habeeb was unanimously approved as Vice President at the 623rd meeting of the commission. Habeeb has been the longest serving member of ECM.

The vice president post had been vacant since Ahmed Akram resigned from the position. Akram resigned from ECM on November 19, after the Parliamentary Committee on Independent Institutions passed the decision to dismiss him from the commission following an inquiry into allegations of misconduct.
