Japan delivers medical equipment worth USD 5.6 million to the Maldives

The Government of Japan has delivered medical equipment worth USD 5.6 million to strengthen health sector of the Maldives.

The medical equipment was handed over to Minister of Health Ahmed Naseem by Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives Keiko Yanai at a ceremony held at the Health Emergency Operation Center (HEOC). The equipment includes 65 bedside monitors, 19 portable ultrasound machines, 19 defibrillators, 10 portable X-Ray machines, 132 syringe pumps and 132 syringe pump accessories.

The Exchange of Notes for the grant of approximately USD 5.6 million was signed by the Government of Japan and the Government of Maldives in June 2020. The grant is intended to support the on-going efforts of the Government of Maldives to improve the health services at atolls and regional hospitals across the country and also to strengthen their capacity to respond to the current pandemic of COVID-19.

The Government of Japan expressed hope that the grant assistance will further strengthen the healthcare system and contribute to the development of the health sector in the Maldives.
