Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom has attributed the success in recovering the tourism sector of the Maldives to key decisions made by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to accelerate economic recovery. The minister made the remarks following the arrival of the 500,000th tourist to visit the Maldives this year.
The tourism minister said the Maldives was able to reach the target set for this year due to the key decision made by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to reopen borders in July. He also attributed the success to the hard work and determination of all stakeholders of the tourism industry, as well as healthcare workers and volunteers.
The 500,000th tourist to visit the Maldives this year was welcomed at Velana International Airport (VIA) by officials of Ministry of Tourism and Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC). The tourist was greeted with cultural items and was presented with special gifts upon arrival.
