Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has set a control cap on the fees charged by shipping agents in the Maldives.
The amended regulation on shipping agencies came in to effect on November 26. As per the amended regulation, shipping agents cannot charge fees beyond the control caps set on the Delivery Order (DO) Charge. For a full container or an equivalent volume, the maximum DO charge has been set as USD 50, while a maximum DO charge of USD 25 has been set for a container with lower volumes.
The transport ministry requested consignees to notify the Maritime Department of Maldives Transport Authority if any shipping agents charge fees beyond the control cap. The ministry said shipping agents found violating the regulations will be fined USD 65 and USD 650 for the first two violations respectively. The ministry added any further violations will result in a fine of USD 6,500 each.
