UN has heralded an order of peace and cooperation among nations: President

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated the establishment of the United Nations (UN) has heralded an order of peace and cooperation among nations.

In a tweet posted on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the UN, President Solih noted the organisation has established an order that prizes peace and cooperation among nations in meeting common challenges. The president noted the UN’s role in spearheading efforts to combat COVID-19 is illustrative of this multilateral spirit. He added the Maldives celebrates the UN Day, as a proud and active member.

The UN was established after World War II with the aim of preventing future wars and promoting peace and multilateral cooperation. The UN Charter was signed among member countries on June 26, 1945 and officially took effect on October 24, 1945. The Maldives became a member of the UN on September 21, 1965, shortly after the country gained independence.
