President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated the future of the community will be shaped with the say of youth. The president made the remarks in a tweet posted commemorating the National Youth Day.
In the tweet president extended best wishes to the youth across the Maldives. The president expressed youth are the drivers of the nation adding it is the responsibility of the government to unlock their full potential by providing them opportunities. As such, he noted the youth will play a major role in shaping the future.
Last year, upon the advice of the cabinet, the president declared that October 22 of each year will be National Youth day. At the cabinet discussion, the ministers highlighted that twelve years ago, October 22 was the day on which the act enabling voting rights for Maldivian citizens of 18 years and above was passed.
National Youth Day has been celebrated on different dates on numerous occasions in the past, which includes the March 1, August 12 and November 7.
