Maldives has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Seafarers’ Rights International (SRI) to strengthen the maritime sector of the Maldives.
The MoU was signed during a virtual ceremony held on October 12. The MoU was signed by Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Aishath Nahula and Executive Director of SRI Deirdre Fitzpatrick.
Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation stated the MoU will enable the Maldives to implement important maritime legislations and achieve the targets set out in the Strategic Action Plan (SAP). In this regard, the ministry said the MoU will facilitate technical assistance from SRI to shape the maritime policy of the Maldives in accordance to international standards.
SRI is an independent centre dedicated to advancing seafarers’ interests through research, education and training in the law concerning seafarers.
