The ministry noted elimination of all gender based violence, especially against girls, is among the top priorities of the administration.
The gender ministry also highlighted the efforts undertaken to empower women and girls in the Maldives, noting the efforts focus on enhancing self-perception, helping women and girls realise their potential and increasing the number of women in leadership positions in the country. The ministry further stated the theme for this year’s International Day of the Girl Child, which is “My Voice: Our Equal Future”, also emphasises the importance of establishing equal opportunities for girls and implementing policies towards gender parity.
The International Day of the Girl Child is marked annually on October 11.
