The President’s Office has announced this year’s National Awards, previously scheduled to be presented to recipients during the National Day function, has been deferred to a later date.
The announcement was made on October 11 following President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s decision not to hold the annual National Day function this year due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The President’s Office has also announced that the 2020 National Awards would be presented to recipients at a special function at a later date, and that the date will be contingent on the country’s developing situation with regard to COVID-19.
The National Awards are presented to outstanding individuals, civil institutions, private companies and organisations, for contributions to national development and in recognition of and honouring exceptional and continuous services towards nurturing a healthier and more vibrant society. The opportunity to submit nominations for the awards was opened from August 27 to September 10.
The President's Special Achievement Awards Committee announced it had accepted 57 applications out of the 94 nominations received for this year’s President’s Award for Special Achievement.
