President forwards nominations for HRCM and NIC to the Parliament

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has forwarded the nominations for the vacant membership positions at the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) and National Integrity Commission (NIC) for parliamentary consideration.

In a letter sent to the Parliament of the Maldives, President Solih nominated Mariyam Muna, Ahmed Sameen and Maheera Mohamed for the vacant membership slot at HRCM. In the letter, the president also included the names of all other applicants who fulfilled the eligibility criteria for the position. The nominations have been sent to the Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights and Gender for review.

Four membership positions at HRCM were vacated in July with the resignation of three members and dismissal of one member through a no-confidence vote at the parliament. Three of the vacant slots were filled in September, with the appointment of Aminath Shifa’ath Abdul Razzaq, Moomina Waheed and Dr. Ahmed Adham Abdulla.

Furthermore, the president has also sent his nomination for the vacant membership position at NIC for parliamentary consideration. As such, the president nominated Qasim Abdul Kareem for the position, which was vacated with the dismissal of Ahmed Sulaiman from the commission on August 10. Along with the nomination, the president also forwarded the names of other applicants who fulfilled the eligibility criteria for the position.
