President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated teachers provide an invaluable service to the nation, by educating the young generations and laying the foundations for national development.
In a video message published on the occasion of World Teachers’ Day, President Solih said teaching is not merely a profession, but an essential service. He said the invaluable contribution of teachers in educating the young generations lays the foundations for national development.
In his message the president also thanked teachers for the tireless efforts they made during the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure continued education, despite the challenges of the disease. The president said the entire nation owes them a debt of gratitude for their diligence and sacrifice. He ended his remarks praying for the success of all those who work in the profession of teaching.
Meanwhile, Vice President Faisal Naseem also posted a tweet wishing a happy teachers’ day to all teachers who continue educating students amid the COVID-19 pandemic. In his tweet, the vice president expressed gratitude for the efforts and hard work invested by teachers to bring out the best in students.
World Teachers’ Day is marked annually on October 5. The theme for this year’s World Teachers’ Day is “Teachers – Leading in Crisis, Reimagining the Future”. The theme was set in appreciation of the hard work of teachers to ensure the continued education of students, despite the challenges and difficulties posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Due to suspension of physical classes amid the COVID-19 pandemic, teachers around the world have been using virtual platforms to educate students. In this regard, teachers in the Maldives have also been teaching though teleclasses, google classrooms and other virtual platforms as schools remain closed for most of the grades.
