Maldivian flag flown at half mast in honour of late Kuwaiti Emir

The Maldivian flag has been flown at half mast in honour of late Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah.

Following the demise of Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih sent a condolence message to the Kuwaiti government, expressing he was deeply saddened by this loss to the Kuwaiti people and Government, and to the al Sabah family in particular. The president praised the late Emir as an accomplished statesman and diplomat of high standing, recognised internationally for the leading role he played during his lifetime in resolving regional tensions and settling disputes. He also acknowledged the Kuwaiti Emir as a great friend to the Maldives, who took several initiatives to provide the country with generous assistance and development cooperation, for which the entire nation owes him a debt of gratitude.

Following the demise of Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah, Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has ascended as the new Emir of Kuwait. In a separate message, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih extended his well wishes to the new Emir of Kuwait, expressing confidence the ties between Kuwait and the Maldives will continue to prosper under the leadership of the new Emir, and that the excellent relations between the two countries will strengthen.
