Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has forwarded charges of corruption against Male’ City Mayor Sifa Mohammed to the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO).
ACC conducted an investigation against the mayor in relation to the contracting Amin Construction Private Limited with the development of a park in Male’ City, adjacent to the Sinamale’ Bridge. ACC stated the project was awarded to Amin Construction by Male’ City Council without any documentation, and with no consideration to establish a competitive and fair bidding process. The commission also noted the mayor had tried to award the contract for the project after Amin Construction began work on the project. It also noted the mayor had failed to disclose details of a grant proposal received by the city council regarding the development of the park.
The investigation report of ACC stated Mayor Sifa Mohamed had used her influence and authority to provide an illicit benefit for a private party, as indicated by all the evidence gathered during the investigation. Upon conclusion of the investigation, ACC has forwarded the corruption charges against the mayor to the PG Office.
The final decision on pressing the charges at court will be made by the Prosecutor General after reviewing the investigation report.
