The Government of United Arab Emirates (UAE) has donated two sanitisation trucks to the Maldives as further assistance to support the government’s efforts in responding to COVID-19.
In a statement released on September 29, Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated this donation will facilitate to disinfect public areas and contribute to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus, specifically as life continues with ease of restrictions and steps of normalcy. The ministry stated this donation of sanitisation trucks, which followed the substantial donation of 72 tonnes of crucial medical equipment and supplies worth USD 5 million by UAE in June this year, will significantly scale up the Maldives’ capacity for combatting the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The Maldivian government expressed its immense gratitude to the leadership, the government and the brotherly people of the UAE for the donation and the consistent priority given by the UAE towards the needs of the people of the Maldives. The statement further noted these generous donations to the people of the Maldives reflects the close bond of friendship and the significant historic ties between the Maldives and the UAE.
