Cargo ferry would further strengthen the friendship between Maldives and India: President

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated the cargo ferry service established between the Maldives and India would further strengthen the close friendship between the two countries.

In a tweet posted following the maiden voyage of the cargo ferry operated between Cochin and Kulhudhuffushi, President Solih thanked Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and the Indian government for facilitating the project. He expressed the ferry would further strengthen the friendship between the two countries and bring greater prosperity to the two countries.

The cargo vessel MCP Linz departed on its maiden voyage to the Maldives from the Tuticorin port on September 21. The vessel docked in Kulhudhuffushi on September 26 with 500 tonnes of cargo. The vessel is scheduled to dock in Male’ on September 28.

The government states the introduction of the cargo ferry service will bring many economic benefits to the Maldives, by helping to sell local products to a wider international market and reducing the price of imported goods.
