Vice President Faisal Naseem has held discussions with stakeholder ministries and officials from the Maldives National University (MNU) on strengthening local human resources, in order to boost national growth.
During a meeting held at the President’s Office, Vice President Naseem highlighted the government prioritises facilitating opportunities for its young workforce to enhance their skillsets. The vice president urged stakeholder ministries and the MNU to collaborate to develop learning programmes and trainings needed for key development areas, in an accessible manner that reaches remote islands far from the capital. He especially noted the lack of Maldivian nationals employed in senior positions within the tourism industry, and stressed that the way to ameliorate this is to provide training opportunities for tourism sector employees, with the MNU to play an important role.
Ministers noted the challenges they face with regards to finding skilled employees, and presented their ideas relevant to addressing skilled-worker shortages. Similarly, the MNU’s faculty heads also shared their perspectives with regard to solving this issue.
The meeting was attended by the Special Advisor on Social Policy at the President’s Office Musthafa Luthfee, Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Ali, Minister of Higher Education Dr. Ibrahim Hassan, Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom and faculty administrators from the MNU.
