USD 2.89 million disbursed as frontline allowance for MNDF and MPS officers

Ministry of Finance has revealed USD 2.89 million has been disbursed as frontline allowance for officers of Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) and Maldives Police Service (MPS).

The finance ministry said the frontline allowance was disbursed among 6,518 frontline staff of MNDF and MPS. The ministry revealed USD 1.56 million was disbursed to 3,334 staff of MNDF, while USD 1.33 million was disbursed among 3,184 staff of MPS. The finance ministry states a total of USD 5 million has now been disbursed as frontline allowance.

A frontline allowance was introduced to recognise the efforts of frontline workers active amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The allowance is given after classifying frontline workers into high-risk, medium-risk and low-risk categories. Frontline workers in the high-risk category would receive USD 32 per day, while workers in the medium-risk and low-risk categories would receive USD 16 and USD 13 per day respectively.
