Only 7% households do not have internet access: NBS

A survey by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has revealed only 7% households in the Maldives do not have access to internet.

The survey conducted by NBS on household income and expenditure revealed the majority of the Maldivian population have internet access. In this regard, the survey revealed 72% households are able to access internet using mobile data, while 47% households have installed a fiber-optic cable connection for internet service.

The survey indicated only 7% households do not have access to internet through any means. Only 2% of households in Male’ City and 13% households in atolls were reported to have no access to internet.

The survey further revealed smartphones are used by the majority of the population in the Maldives. It also revealed majority of households have flat screen televisions installed. 81% of households in the Maldives were reported to have access to either Cable TV or Netflix.

The survey also revealed desktop computers and laptops were more commonly found in Male’ households compared to households in the atolls, while non-smart phones and radios were more commonly found in the atolls.
