Parliament approves appointment of 4 new members to CSC

The Parliament of the Maldives has approved the appointment of 4 new members to Civil Service Commission (CSC).

The four names which were approved by the parliament are Fathimath Shareef, Ibrahim Rasheed, Mohamed Nasih and Mohamed Farusath. They were among the 15 applicants who were shortlisted by the Parliamentary Committee on Independent Institutions following the interview process. The parliament had received 41 applications for the 4 vacant membership positions at CSC.

Four membership positions at CSC were vacated following the resignation of three members and the dismissal of one member by the parliament. The dismissal motion against President of CSC Aly Shameem and members Shaheed Mohamed, Zakariyya Hussain and Ibrahim Shaheeq was passed by the Parliamentary Committee on Independent Institutions after conducting an inquiry on their actions as CSC members. Shameem, Shaheed and Zakariyya resigned before the parliament scheduled the dismissal vote, while Shaheeq was removed with votes from 48 parliamentarians.
