Ministry of Communication, Science and Technology has stated efforts are underway to acquire International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) certification for National Centre for Information Technology (NCIT).
Speaking in a programme aired on PSM News, State Minister of Communication, Science and Technology Ali Solih said NCIT had lost its ISO certification due to negligence from previous managements. He said efforts are underway to develop NCIT and re-establish the centre as an ISO-certified institution.
The state minister further said the misuse of sensitive information of the government stored at NCIT has always been an issue of concern. However, he said security of the database at NCIT has been increased, noting data at NCIT can no longer be accessed without authorisation.
Moreover, State Minister Solih said there is no need to establish any further institutions to store and maintain government data, as NCIT provides the services for government institutions without any fees. He said the data centre of NCIT is now able to provide its services without any interruptions or breaches of security.
