Shops, cafes and restaurants urged to close latest by 2130hrs

Maldives Police Service (MPS) has urged shops in the Greater Male’ Region to close by 2130hrs upon the implementation of new movement restrictions in the capital.

Speaking at a press conference held at HEOC, Chief Superintendent of Police Abdulla Shareef revealed movement restrictions in the Greater Male’ Region have now been imposed from 2000hrs to 0500hrs, during which driving will not be permitted. However, the chief superintendent noted shops, cafes and restaurants will be permitted to operate until 2200hrs, although staff and customers will have to walk after 2000hrs. He urged shops and other establishments to close latest by 2130hrs to allow staff to return home before curfew begins at 2200 hrs.

The chief superintendent noted shops, cafes and restaurants can provide delivery services until 2200hrs, although no vehicles can be used after 2000hrs. He said public transport services including bus and ferry services will be provided under a revised schedule after 2000hrs, while the permits issued for taxis will also be increased.

MPS has warned action will be taken against individuals who breach the movement restrictions set in the Greater Male’ Region. MPS stated a warning will be given after the first violation, and that multiple violations will lead to a fine.
