Movement of vehicles banned from 2000hrs until 0500hrs

Health Emergency Operations Centre (HEOC) has announced the government’s decision to ban movement of land vehicles within the Greater Male’ Region between 2000 hours until 0500 hours.

Following a surge of COVID-19 cases in the country after the government decided to ease the lockdown restrictions, the government has imposed stricter measures to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in Maldives. In this regard, a vehicle ban has been imposed from 2000hrs to 0500hrs daily. However, individuals are allowed to be out on foot until 2200hrs.

Speaking about the decision, Chief Superintendent of Police Abdulla Shareef said the police will enforce the vehicle ban and take action against those who breach it. He said vehicles that violate the guidelines will be cautioned the first time and a fine of USD 65 will be imposed upon multiple violations.

With the change, cafes and restaurants have been ordered to close latest by 2130 hours. Meanwhile, individuals who finish their jobs after 2000 hours will have to take public transport or walk home.

HEOC stated the decision was deemed necessary to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in the Maldives.
