Additional 200 Bangladeshi nationals repatriated

The national airline, Maldivian has repatriated an additional 200 Bangladeshi nationals from the Maldives.

The expatriate workers were repatriated on a flight that travelled to Dhaka, Bangladesh. Island Aviation Services Limited (IASL) said this is the 30th repatriation flight conducted by the national airline amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Over 5,733 Bangladeshi nationals have been repatriated from the Maldives over the past few months.

The government has been conducting special efforts to repatriate tourists and expatriate workers stranded in the Maldives amid the COVID-19 pandemic. In this regard, a special focus is given to repatriate undocumented workers living in the Maldives.

One of the major decisions of the government to contain the spread of COVID-19 is relocating expatriate workers living in overcrowded accommodations.
