President seeks parliamentary consideration for NIC membership applicants

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has sent the names of all interested candidates who applied for three membership vacancies at the National Integrity Commission (NIC), for the consideration of the Parliament of the Maldives.

The President’s Office had earlier announced for applications to fill three vacant posts at the NIC, following the resignation of members Hassaan Hameed, Khadeeja Abdulla and Ahmed Ameen. Their resignation followed the decision of the Parliamentary Committee on Independent Institutions to advise President Solih to dismiss them over their failure to investigate complaints submitted in relation to law enforcement agencies.

Meanwhile, the President’s Office has opened applications to fill another membership vacancy at NIC, following the dismissal of Ahmed Sulaiman. He was dismissed by the president upon the counsel of the parliament.

The President’s Office announced it will accept applications for the vacant membership slot at NIC from August 16 – 18. Application forms are available for download from the website of the President’s Office.

NIC is tasked with overseeing the administration of law enforcement agencies, investigating complaints submitted against the agencies and taking relevant action. The authority to appoint and dismiss members of NIC is granted to the president, in accordance to the NIC Act.
