Active COVID-19 cases reported from 13 islands and 8 resorts

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed 13 islands and 8 resorts currently have active COVID-19 cases, besides the Greater Male’ Region.

Statistics from the HPA indicate Haa Alifu Atoll currently the highest number of active cases outside the capital. The islands of Kelaa, Ihavandhoo and Filladhoo in Haa Alifu Atoll have reported active cases of COVID-19. Other islands with active cases include Kudarikilu and Kamdhoo in Baa Atoll, Inguraidhoo and Hulhudhuffaaru in Raa Atoll, Naavaidhoo in Haa Dhaalu Atoll, Hinnavaru in Lhaviyani Atoll, Maafushi in Kaafu Atoll, Fulidhoo in Vaavu Atoll as well as Addu City and Fuvahmulah City.

HPA said none of the islands outside the Greater Male’ Region are currently undergoing a community spread situation, despite the detection of imported COVID-19 cases in some islands. HPA said most of the active cases in islands belong to individuals who were undergoing home quarantine after returning from Male’ City.

Since the Maldives reopened its borders for international operations on July 15, resorts have been reporting COVID-19 cases. 8 tourists and 9 staff have tested positive from resorts since borders were reopened.
