All three branches of the state must ensure freedom and rights of citizens: AG

Attorney General (AG) Ibrahim Rifath states the executive, legislature and the judiciary must work to ensure freedom and the right of citizens.

In a tweet posted on the occasion of the 12-year anniversary of the ratification of the new constitution of the Maldives, the attorney general noted the importance of fighting for freedom and rights. He said all three branches of state must ensure the provision of rights ensured under the new constitution.

The current constitution is the first ever in the Maldives that paved way for the separation of powers and allowed people to reap its benefits and enjoy freedom and rights. As per the constitution, all powers of the state of the Maldives are derived from, and remain with, the citizens.

The current constitution was ratified on August 7, 2008.
