1,769 tourist arrivals recorded in July

Maldives Immigration has revealed 1,769 tourists arrived in Maldives in the last two weeks of July.

The Maldives reopened its border on July 15, after the borders were closed on March 27 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Immigration revealed 1,769 tourist arrivals were recorded between July 15 and July 31.

According to the statistics publicised by the Maldives Immigration, the highest number of arrivals was recorded from the UK with 258 tourists. Other arrivals include 189 tourists from the US, 143 from the UAE, 135 from Germany, 79 from Switzerland, 62 from Spain, 58 from France, 58 from Russia, 44 from Italy, 43 from the Philippines and 700 arrivals from other countries.

Immigration said the highest arrivals on a single day was recorded on July 30 with 218 tourist arrivals, while the least number of arrivals on a single day was recorded on July 22 with 32 tourist arrivals. 80 tourists arrived in the Maldives on July 15, the day the country opened its borders after 110 days.

The government of the Maldives aims to record 850,000 tourist arrivals by the end of the year. The tourism ministry and the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) have been undertaking efforts to promote the Maldives as a safe destination for tourists.
