WAMCO to continue collecting household waste from ground floors

Waste Management Corporation Limited (WAMCO) has extended the decision to collect waste from the ground floor of all households in the Greater Male' Region.

WAMCO brought changes to its waste collection services after the first COVID-19 case was detected in Male' City on April 15. The state-owned company decided not to collect waste individually from each floor of a building and requested customers to bring down waste to the ground floor of the building before the allocated collection hours.

The changes were initially adapted until August 1. However, WAMCO revealed it will continue collecting waste from the ground floor of all households as a measure to ensure the safety of its staff and customers as the situation in the Greater Male' region has not improved. WAMCO said waste collection from households under monitoring will be conducted by a special team as per instructions from the Health Protection Agency (HPA).

WAMCO stated waste collection timings in the Greater Male' Region have not changed and will be from 1200hrs to 1400hrs daily. The company requested customers to ensure the waste is packaged securely in double bags to avoid leakage.

Furthermore, WAMCO revealed waste will be collected from WAMCO sites in Male' and Hulhumale' from 0800hrs to 0000hrs, while WAMCO site in Villimale' will collect waste from 0800hrs to 2200hrs without any permits.
