Resort staff required to quarantine if travelling to islands

Health Emergency Operation Centre (HEOC) has stated staff traveling from a resort currently in operation to another island must undergo a 14-day quarantine period.

Speaking at a daily press conference, Spokesperson of the HEOC Dr. Nazla Rafeeq said the decision was made in the wake of resorts resuming operations following the opening of the borders of the Maldives. She revealed the island council must be notified of the travel dates beforehand.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) stated resort staff must follow the existing rules and regulations regarding restrictions when travelling between islands. HPA said individuals must not be allowed to travel daily back and forth for work between their resident islands and the resort, adding a fixed accommodation must be provided for such individuals at the resort. Further, staff must complete a 14-day period of quarantine at the resort followed by a test for COVID-19 if they travel to a resort from the Greater Male' Region or any island with active COVID-19 cases.

HPA also noted if a staff travels from the resort to an island where there is no community spread of COVID-19 they must undergo a 14-day period of quarantine upon arrival followed by a test for COVID-19.
