HEOC resumes using resorts as quarantine facilities

Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen has stated the Health Emergency Operations Centre (HEOC) has resumed utilising some resorts as quarantine facilities following an increase in COVID-19 cases in the Maldives.

Following the decision of the administration to ease the lockdown orders imposed in the Greater Male' Region, HEOC had stopped using resorts after opting to use guest houses in Hulhumale' instead. Additionally, individuals who could isolate in households were given the choice to stay in their homes. However, additional facilities have been acquired following a significant increase in the people testing positive.

Speaking to PSM News, Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen said the HEOC is currently identifying additional facilities required to quarantine individuals. Stating that HEOC has already begun using three or four resorts, the minister added efforts are underway to allocate more resorts as quarantine facilities. He said the HEOC will obtain facilities to cater to the increase in number of individuals testing positive for COVID-19.
