JSC initiates dismissal motion against Chief Magistrate Mohamed Mausoom

Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has initiated the motion to remove Chief Magistrate of Haa Dhaalu Judicial Constituency, Mohamed Mausoom, after investigating allegations of corruption and sexual harassment raised against him.

Following a meeting of JSC held on July 19, the commission announced the decision to initiate a dismissal motion against Chief Magistrate Mausoom after the commission found him guilty of multiple allegations of corruption and sexual harassment raised against him. As such, JSC stated Mausoom had taken bribes for several rulings issued by magistrate courts in the constituency, as proven by the large sums of unaccounted money deposited to his bank account. JSC also revealed Mausoom had sexually harassed a court employee and used language which is deemed inappropriate for a work environment when speaking with an employee.

Following the completion of the investigation, JSC declared Mausoom had violated the Clause 32 of the Judges’ Act as well as the Code of Conduct for Judges. The commission announced the decision to submit the dismissal motion against Mausoom to the Parliament of the Maldives.
