Police search the residence of dismissed Tourism Minister

Maldives Police Service (MPS) has conducted a search operation at the residence of the recently dismissed Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed as part of the ongoing sexual harassment investigation against him.

Ali Waheed is accused of sexually harassing female employees of the Ministry of Tourism. MPS revealed some electronic items related to Ali Waheed have been confiscated during the search operation conducted as part of the investigation.

On July 8, President Solih ordered Ali Waheed to submit his resignation, after the allegations of sexual harassment were raised by female employees of the Ministry of Tourism. However, as the resignation had not been submitted in time, the president dismissed Ali Waheed from the cabinet on July 9 and appointed Minister of Economic Affairs Fayyaz Ismail as the acting tourism minister.

Ali Waheed had also come under scrutiny recently after a man in a leaked audio believed to be Ali Waheed made inappropriate comments about other cabinet ministers.
