Utilising guest houses as transit hotels is encouraging: GAM

President of the Guest House Association of Maldives (GAM) Moosa Nasih has stated the decision of the government to utilise guest houses in the Greater Male' Region as transit hotels is an encouragement for operators.

Ministry of Tourism has permitted guest houses in Greater Male' Region to be used as transit hotels for tourists traveling to resorts. Speaking to PSM News, Nasih said GAM expects the government to receive applications for such guest houses in the coming week or two as most establishments are ready to be operated as transit hotels under new normalcy guidelines prepared by the tourism ministry.

Despite the decision to permit transit passengers in guest houses in the Greater Male' Region, all such establishments across the country will only be permitted to start receiving tourists in August.

The Maldives will reopen its borders on July 15 after three months of lockdown.
