MNDF captures a foreign fishing vessel operating in Maldivian EEZ

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has revealed a foreign fishing vessel has been captured while operating in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of the Maldives.

MNDF revealed the vessel was intercepted 37 nautical miles to the east of Meemu Atoll. The vessel was reported to the Coast Guard by two local fishing vessels operating in the region. MNDF revealed six crew members were found on board the vessel when it had been intercepted by the Central Area Coast Guard.

MNDF revealed the foreign vessel is currently under investigation by authorities. MNDF also thanked local fishing vessels for the continuous support and assistance received in identifying illegal activities within the EEZ of the Maldives.
