Fenaka Corporation Limited has signed an agreement to develop a drinking water bottling plant in Hoarafushi, Haa Alifu Atoll.
The contract to develop the bottling plant was signed by Managing Director of Fenaka Ahmed Saeed and the President of Hoarafushi Island Council Mohamed Waheed. The project is conducted through a joint venture, with Hoarafushi Island Council owning a proportion of the shares.
Fenaka said 10,000 to 12,000 bottles will be produced daily upon the development of the plant. The state-owned company also revealed dispensers will be distributed to all households in Hoarafushi under the second phase of the project.
The project to develop the bottling plant in the island is conducted under the High impact Community Development Project (HICDP) scheme of India. Hoarafushi Island Council provided a plot of land for the development of the plant adjacent to the water supply plant established in the island.
The government of the Maldives stated the project will ensure a fast and efficient supply of water to islands in the region, and generate higher revenue for Hoarafushi.
