Parliament approves Aslam as Housing Minister

The Parliament of the Maldives has approved the appointment of Mohamed Aslam as the Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure.

The nomination for the ministerial post of the ministry and its mandate was forwarded to the Parliamentary Committee on Government Oversight on June 15 and passed unanimously on June 28. Following the approval from the committee, the parliament took a vote to approve the ministerial appointment and the mandate of the ministry, during the sitting on June 30. The appointment of Aslam was approved with votes from 65 parliamentarians, while the mandate of the ministry was approved with votes from 66 parliamentarians.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih dissolved Ministry of Housing and Urban Development following the resignation of Aminath Athifa as its minister, citing health issues. The decision merged the Ministry of National Planning and Infrastructure and Ministry of Housing and Urban Development forming Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure.

Mohamed Aslam was already a serving member of the cabinet, holding the portfolio of the Minister of National Planning and Infrastructure, prior to the reorganisation of the government on June 11.
