Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) has stated activities to promote the Maldives as a tourist destination had to be increased after the borders were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking at a press conference held at the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC), Managing Director Thoyyib Mohamed said MMPRC had been carrying out a wide range of marketing activities to promote the Maldives as a tourist destination even when the borders were closed due to the pandemic. He said the activities had to be increased in order to maintain the popularity of the Maldives as a tourist destination during the time the borders were closed.

The managing director said the marketing activities amid the pandemic have been mainly conducted through online platforms such as Facebook Live and webinars. As such, he highlighted the successful promotional campaign, titled The Sun Will Shine Again, which was held online on June 8.
