BML provides funding for 5 projects under Community Fund programme

Bank of Maldives (BML) has provided funding for the 5 best projects proposed under its Community Fund programme during the first quarter of the year.

The Community Fund programme is an initiative of BML to assist individuals and local NGOs in conducting projects for the benefit of the community. The bank evaluates all the proposals submitted under the programme on a quarterly basis, and awards funding to the 5 best proposals submitted during each quarter.

The projects which were awarded funds for the first quarter of 2020 include establishment of a community park in Kanditheemu, Shaviyani Atoll, development of the library at the Alifu Alifu Atoll Education Centre, development of a picnic area in Veymandoo, Thaa Atoll, development of a skate park in Vaadhoo, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll and the establishment of a special park for elderly people in Addu City Feydhoo.

Public Relations Manager of BML Mohamed Saeed said the bank aims to provide funding for 20 community projects this year as well, despite the difficulties caused by COVID-19. He noted the programme plays a vital role in encouraging community development efforts, especially in the atolls.

BML revealed community projects in 25 islands have been funded under the Community Fund programme.
