Most imports in May were from India: Customs

Maldives Customs Service has revealed the most number of goods imported to the Maldives in May were imported from India.

Monthly statistics published by Customs revealed goods worth USD 17 million were imported from India which accounts to 17% of the total imports in May. Meanwhile, goods worth USD 15.9 million were imported from China which accounts to 16% of the total imports. Other major importing countries to the Maldives in May include Singapore, Sri Lanka and the UAE.

With tuna products identified as the most exported commodity from the Maldives, the statistics showed most of the tuna products were exported to Thailand. Goods exported to Thailand amount to 46% of the total exports which is worth USD 3.7 million.

Other countries to which the Maldives exported goods include Germany and France. The statistics showed 16% of the exports amounting to USD 1.2 million were exported to Germany and 10% were exported to France which amounted to USD 649,460.

Customs revealed the Maldives received USD 7.6 million as import and export duty in May, which is a decrease of 59% compared to the same month of last year.
