The government of Maldives has allocated a plot of land from the diplomatic enclave in Hulhumale' to establish the new building of the High Commission of Pakistan.
During a virtual ceremony, Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid handed over the written confirmation of the allocation to High Commissioner Designate from Pakistan to the Maldives Ather Mukhtar. The administration allocated a land plot of 12,000 square feet to establish the new building of the High Commission of Pakistan, although it was previously decided to allocated a land plot of 3,000 square feet.
Meanwhile, as a goodwill gesture the Pakistani High Commissioner revealed the Maldives will be allocated a land plot twice the size from the middle of the Diplomatic Encalve in Islamabad, Pakistan to the establish the new building of the High Commission of the Maldives.
The foreign ministry has allocated a diplomatic enclave at Hulhumale Phase 2 for diplomatic missions in the Maldives to easily guarantee safety and security of foreign missions by limiting locations of the missions to one area in accordance with the international standards and best practices. The foreign ministry said Hulhumale' was selected for the enclave as Male' City is already congested and cannot accommodate additional diplomatic missions.
