Male' City Council begins repairing 57 damaged roads

Male' City Council has stated efforts are underway to repair damaged roads in the capital city.

Speaking to PSM News, Male' City Mayor Sifa Mohamed said the finances needed to repair 57 roads had been budgeted for the year, before the lockdown imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic forced a halt on the project. However, the mayor said the city council has now resumed the project after the government eased some of the lockdown restrictions imposed in the city. She said the project will involve leveling and repaving 57 damaged roads in the capital city.

Speaking further, the mayor said the project is not part of the Male' Streetscaping Project, contracted to Road Development Corporation (RDC). She said the project was commenced as the Male' Streetscaping Project may still take some time to be fully operational, and since there are roads that need urgent repairs in the mean time.

Male' City Council has also stated efforts are underway to clean parks and other public spaces in the city, since more people are expected to use these spaces as restrictions are eased.
