Overtime benefits to be issued as usual for government employees

Ministry of Finance has stated government employees will continue to receive overtime benefits as per the policy followed before the COVID-19 pandemic.

The finance ministry said a new policy had been announced following the pandemic, which states overtime allowances will only be provided for any extra hours worked beyond 48 hours per week. However, the ministry said the new policy has now been abolished, adding government employees will continue to receive overtime benefits as per the policy followed before COVID-19.

The finance ministry further noted different state institutions practice different policies in issuing overtime benefits. Noting the expenditure on overtime benefits has been increasing year by year, the ministry said efforts are underway to formulate a common overtime policy for all state institutions and reduce unnecessary expenses.
