The Parliamentary Committee on Independent Institutions has decided to proceed with the dismissal motion of all members of the Civil Service Commission (CSC), including the most recent appointment, Fathimath Amira.
The committee approved the motion to initiate proceedings to dismiss all five members of CSC on June 3. The motion was announced by Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed during the parliament sitting on June 8 and sent to the committee for official review.
The committee previously decided to dismiss President of CSC Aly Shameem, Vice President Shaheed Mohamed and members Zakariyya Hussain and Ibrahim Shaheeq. However, the committee later decided to dismiss the most recent appointment to the commission Fathimath Amira as well, as she was found to have provided the committee with false information. Parliamentarian Mohamed Abdulla Shafeeq proposed the motion to dismiss Amira, along with the other four members of the commission.
The parliament has probed into the actions of CSC members on multiple occasions over delays in commission proceedings and requested written responses from 4 members by February 18. The inquiry mainly focuses on unfair dismissal of employees, influence peddling in recruiting permanent secretaries, unjust policies in staff recruitment to the commission and personal issues amongst members of the commission.
As part of the inquiry, the committee also met with cabinet ministers to clarify if the actions of the members hindered government proceedings. The ministers noted the actions of the commission had obstructed many operations within the ministries.
