Another 243 Indians repatriated from the Maldives

The High Commission of India in the Maldives has revealed an additional 243 Indian nationals have been repatriated from the Maldives via a chartered flight of IndiGo.

The Indian high commission revealed IndiGo operated a chartered flight to evacuate some of the Indian staff working in Maldivian companies. The high commission said with the latest evacuation, the number of Indian nationals repatriated from the Maldives has now passed 2,000.

The Indian government has been operating a major evacuation programme to repatriate Indians stranded overseas amid the COVID-19 pandemic. In this regard, Indians have been repatriated from the Maldives through ships of the Indian navy, as well as chartered flights.

An additional 700 Indians are scheduled to depart from the Maldives on June 5, via the naval ship INS Jalashwa. This would be the fourth evacuation of Indians from the Maldives by sea.
