Equipment installation completed at new medical facility in Hulhumale’

State Trading Organisation (STO) has stated all the required equipment for the new COVID-19 medical facility established in Hulhumale’ has been installed.

STO stated the required equipment for the new medical facility has been fully installed, while the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and other necessary medical consumables have been supplied to the facility. STO said the equiplment installed at the facility is designed to provide a clean and safe environment for healthcare workers to treat COVID-19 patients. The state-owned enterprise noted the completion of a fully-equipped medical facility is a major boost to the efforts of the Maldives against COVID-19.

Development of the new medical facility in Hulhumale’ began in April under the supervision of Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), with assistance from with assistance from Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC), Fenaka Corporation Limited, State Electric Company Limited (STELCO), Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO), Housing Development Corporation (HDC), Alia Construction, Amin Construction and Rasheed Carpentry and Construction (RCC). Construction of the facility was completed in May 24 and handed over to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

The facility consists of five blocks, including two medical blocks with a total of 290 isolation beds. The facility also consists of an accommodation block for healthcare workers as well as a service block with a laundry, kitchen, mess room and a waste management unit. Additionally, the facility consists of a block with an autoclave machine and a unit for processing dead bodies.
